January 2023: dentsu Pandemic & Economic Sentiment

While most consumers feel optimistic about the trajectory of the COVID-19 pandemic and comfortable carrying out activities in public, sentiment towards the economy is largely negative, with almost two thirds of respondents reporting they believe there is a recession. This is driving most to be more budget conscious and to purchase store brand or generic products, as well as brands they perceive to offer greater value for money more often than they did in the past.
